Why Use a Vacuum Detector?

Electron-Ion Vacuum Detectors are vacuum flange mounted detectors typically using Microchannel Plates to convert individual ions or electrons into measurable bunches of electrons. 

 

For imaging applications, such as found in Velocity Map Imaging, a phosphor screen is used to visualize the particle spatial and temporal pattern. When ultra-fast detection is required, as in many mass spectrometry applications, a single metal anode with excellent pulse fidelity is used to proved picosecond level timing precision.
